SO WHAT IS THE CLUBHOUSE CRAZE ALL ABOUT?
If Clubhouse isn’t a combination of LinkedIn coming ALIVE, an interactive podcast, and an audio zoom meeting with random people, we don’t know what is. And if you’re still confused about what the buzz is all about, let us make this easier for you. In its simplest form, Clubhouse is an audio-based app that took the world by storm overnight. It takes social networking to the next level, allowing people to drop into a conversation on a particular topic via chat rooms. You can compare it to a conference call where some people speak on a specific topic while others listen and can drop in to ask questions or put points across as an audience. With its fantastic scarcity marketing strategy, the app works on an “invite-only” basis and hosts only 600,000 users worldwide. Getting an invite is only possible when an existing clubhouse user sends it to you. There is no other way to get on the app now, but there seems to be a few ways shortly.
LAUNCH-
Last year, clubhouse launched around March, just when the pandemic hit and made remote communication essential by Silicon Valley entrepreneurs Rohan Seth and Paul Davidson. Initially, the app had only 1,500 users, while its net worth was $100 million. The app received approximately $10M in funding from the capital firm Andreessen Horowitz in May, followed by another $100M round led by Horowitz recently.
CLAIM TO FAME-
The app shot to fame when Elon Musk hosted a session with Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev over the market dynamics. ( During Clubhouse sessions, anyone can join and listen to people talking on various topics. And these people could be celebrities, experts, famous personalities, or any other user of the app! ) The influx of users became out of control. This event saw Clubhouse maxing out at its user capacity!
INTERESTING FACTS!
-At the start of December 2020, it had just 3,500 members worldwide, now it has over 600k, and that crowd includes Oprah, Ashton Kutcher, Drake, and Jared Leto.
-China has already banned the platform as Chinese influencers discussed China’s issues with Taiwan and the government’s massive killing of Muslims.
-What is extremely cool about the app is that you can get a chance to join a session with Elon Musk, Ashton Kutcher, or many other silicon valley entrepreneurs from anywhere across the globe with just the click of a button. AND you might even get to “raise your hand” and have a chance to interact with them if they allow it!
-The app is currently only available on Apple devices to maintain exclusivity. However, they do plan on changing that shortly.
-If you are in the audience moderator can activate with an opinion or question, you can press the “raise your hand” button that the moderator can activate.
-Fun fact- When you become a part of Clubhouse for the first week, you will have a little party hat emoji.
-There are always dozens of conversations happening simultaneously, allowing users to jump between subjects and speakers based on their interests.
-The app is already considered a necessity among Silicon Valley and entertainment personalities. It’s earned a valuation of over $1 billion already! (And it was founded just a year ago)
-Clubhouse wants the niche crowd to come on board only to listen to real conversations and be a part of them as a community-building platform. They have all the correct people on board to make the platform boom!
-Recently Elon Musk has stated that he wants to have an open conversation on this app with Vladimir Putin.
